OVERVIEW
Non-Negotiable Systems are the core behaviors that define your performance identity — the actions you take regardless of circumstances, motivation, or external pressure. They are the foundation of your performance system. Everything else is negotiable. These are not. The power of non-negotiables comes from their unconditional nature — they are not subject to daily re-evaluation.
KEY PRINCIPLES
Non-negotiables derive their power from being non-negotiable — the moment you negotiate, they lose their power
Start with three to five non-negotiables — too many dilutes the concept
Non-negotiables must be behaviors, not outcomes — you control behaviors, not outcomes
They must be executable even on your worst days
Review non-negotiables quarterly — they may evolve, but they must remain non-negotiable
THE PROTOCOL
01
NON-NEGOTIABLE SELECTION
Identify your three to five core performance behaviors. These should be the behaviors that, if consistently executed, make everything else possible. Examples: sleep 7+ hours, train 4x/week, eat protein at every meal.
02
MINIMUM VIABLE VERSION
For each non-negotiable: define the minimum version that still counts. On your worst day, what is the minimum you will still execute? This prevents the all-or-nothing failure mode.
03
PROTECTION SYSTEMS
Build systems that make each non-negotiable easier to execute: schedule it, prepare for it the night before, remove obstacles. The system protects the non-negotiable.
04
ACCOUNTABILITY STRUCTURE
Share your non-negotiables with someone who will hold you accountable. External accountability reinforces internal commitment, especially in the early stages.
05
DAILY TRACKING
Track non-negotiable completion daily. The visual record of consistency is powerful. When you miss one, execute the minimum viable version and do not miss the next day.
TRACK YOUR PROGRESS
Non-negotiable completion rate (target 95%+)
Streak length for each non-negotiable
Recovery rate after missing a non-negotiable
Minimum viable version execution rate
Apply this protocol. Log your sessions. Track your evolution.
